Composed of Mickey Bustamante on vocals and guitars, JR Lucio on guitars, Ghe de Leon on bass and Raffy Bonifacio on drums, Manibela started out using music as an excuse to hang out and have fun. Soon, they started writing their own songs and they found themselves working with their favorite bands.

They come far since and have recorded their debut album entitled “Happy Stambay,” released under Alpha Music. It contains 11 tracks that are light on the ear and easy to comprehend. These are mostly original compositions of the band from the time they started playing.

The songs touch on themes very familiar to the youth, such as in “24 Oras” and “Uwian Na,” which both capture the high-spirited nature of the young at heart. Most of the tracks speak of love, some unrequited (“Sulyap,” “'Wag Na Lang”) or that in the early uncertain stages of infatuation (“Pagtingin,” “Magdamag”). There is also an anthem to friendship entitled “Tunay Na Kaibigan.” The debut single, “Guitar Adik,” was released to some radio stations as early as last year, even making it on NU1O7’s daily countdown, Stairway to Seven.

This may be just the beginning for Manibela, but it is certainly a very promising one. You only need listen to “Happy Stambay” to know that there is a lot more to look forward to.
